HMRC (HM Revenue and Customs)

HMRC is the UK tax authority. It collects income tax and National Insurance, runs Self Assessment, and is the only organisation that decides what you owe.

By JoltMilePublished 27/08/2026

Correct for the 2026/27 tax year. Last checked 12/09/2026.

No delivery platform reports your tax for you, and none of them acts as an employer for tax purposes. Whatever an app tells you about being self-employed, the registration and the return are yours.

What it means for your money

HMRC receives data from the platforms under the digital platform reporting rules, so "they will not know" is not a plan. What it holds is a figure for what you were paid, which is the number a return is checked against.
