How does driving for DPD work?
Usually as a self-employed owner-driver franchisee or as a subcontractor to one - which is a bigger commitment than app-based delivery.

DPD work in the UK is typically done as a self-employed owner-driver franchisee - you provide a van, usually in DPD livery, and run a fixed round - or as a subcontractor driving for someone who holds one of those franchises.
It is a much bigger commitment than app-based delivery. You are generally contracted for set days, a van is a substantial cost whether bought, leased or hired, and there is far less flexibility about when you work. In exchange the income is steadier and more predictable than food delivery.
DPD also employs drivers on PAYE, with a van provided, and has started DPD Connect, where you deliver locally in your own car and are paid weekly per parcel. The DPD driver guide compares all three.
As an owner driver you are self-employed and file a Self Assessment return. Two things need care: if you lease or hire the van the claim rules differ from ownership, and if you take on a van specifically for the work the choice between mileage rates and actual costs is worth taking to an accountant before your first return, because it is hard to unwind.

When each app pays you, and why the date matters for tax
Most apps pay weekly, on different days, with a fee to get it sooner. Evri pays monthly. The pay date decides how much cash you need in reserve and, at the start and end of the year, which tax year the money falls in.
