Can I deliver part-time alongside a normal job?
Yes, and it is very common - but your tax works differently than you might expect.
Last checked 12/09/2026.
Yes. Delivery work is self-employed, so there is nothing stopping you doing it alongside employment - though it is worth checking your employment contract for anything about second jobs.
The tax catch is that your PAYE job normally uses up your £12,570 personal allowance first. That means your delivery profit is taxable from the first pound, at 20% or more, rather than being sheltered by the allowance. Drivers who assume otherwise get an unwelcome surprise in January.
You still file one Self Assessment return covering both, and your PAYE tax already paid is credited against the total.
