Uber Eats mileage tracker

Uber Eats shows what each trip paid, but not what it cost you to drive it, and the miles in the app are not the miles you can claim. JoltMile keeps your own record of both, so the tax return and the hourly rate are built on the right numbers.

The app's miles are not your miles

Uber Eats measures trip distance: to the restaurant and on to the customer. HMRC allows every business mile, including the drive back into a busy area and the miles between orders while you are working. Your claimable total is almost always higher than the figure in the app. Record your own, from odometer readings or JoltMile's shift tracking on iPhone. The guide to app miles and HMRC miles explains the gap.

Car, scooter or bike

The rate depends on the vehicle, and JoltMile applies the right one: 55p then 25p a mile in a car, 24p on a scooter or motorbike, and 20p on a bicycle, with no threshold for the last two. On a bike there is no fuel to count, so what comes off your pay is mostly insurance and tax.

Busy hours and quiet ones

Pay per trip changes with demand, so the same hour of the week can be worth twice as much as another. JoltMile shows your real hourly rate per shift and per platform, which is how you find the evenings worth driving. The Uber Eats earnings article looks at what drives the number.

Common questions

Can I claim mileage for Uber Eats deliveries?
Yes, for every business mile, not only the trip distance Uber shows. In a car that is 55p a mile for the first 10,000 miles of the tax year, then 25p.
Do I need a private hire licence for Uber Eats?
No. That is only for carrying passengers on Uber. For Uber Eats you need the right insurance for food delivery, which an ordinary car policy does not include.
Can I track Uber Eats and Deliveroo together?
Yes. Each shift is tagged with its platform, and the 10,000-mile threshold counts across all of them, the way HMRC does.

Try it on your next shift

Your first 10 shifts are free, then it is £7.99 a month or £69.99 a year, bought in the app.
