Working offline

What happens when the signal goes, what is safe to do without one, and how your work gets back to your account afterwards.

What it is

JoltMile keeps working with no signal. Delivery driving involves a lot of car parks with one bar, so an app that needs a connection to record a shift is an app you cannot use where you actually are.

What happens

  • Your data is cached on the device, so opening the app offline shows your real figures rather than a spinner.
  • Anything you change is queued locally and sent when the connection returns.
  • A bar across the top of the app says when you are offline and how many changes are waiting to sync.

What is safe to do offline

Logging shifts, editing them, adding expenses, changing settings. The queue keeps them in order and sends them when it can.

A shift you start offline keeps counting, and its miles are measured all the same. Two things genuinely need a connection: working out your commute from postcodes, which asks a routing service, and anything to do with your subscription, which is the App Store or Google Play.

On more than one device

Your data lives on your account, so a shift logged on one phone is on another, and in your account on joltmile.com. Changes made offline on two devices at once are applied in the order they reach the server.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Deleting the app while the bar says changes are waiting. That is queued work that has not been sent yet.
  • Signing out while offline. Wait until the changes have synced.
