Do I need extra insurance to deliver for Evri?
Yes. Your motor policy must cover courier work, and you need third-party cover while delivering, which Evri sells as a top-up at £1.35 a day on the days you work.
Last checked 29/09/2026.
Two things. First, the vehicle: an ordinary social, domestic and pleasure policy does not cover delivering parcels for money, so your motor insurance needs courier cover. That applies to a hired or borrowed vehicle as well.
Second, third-party cover while making deliveries and collections for Evri's clients. Evri has a top-up policy for that with Marsh, charged at £1.35 a day and only on days you provide the service.
The top-up is a business expense whichever way you claim your vehicle. Motor insurance is only claimable separately if you claim actual vehicle costs rather than the mileage rate.

When each app pays you, and why the date matters for tax
Most apps pay weekly, on different days, with a fee to get it sooner. Evri pays monthly. The pay date decides how much cash you need in reserve and, at the start and end of the year, which tax year the money falls in.

Self-employed riders can usually send someone else to do the work. That right comes with rules on every platform, a tax position most substitutes and account holders get wrong, and from October 2026 a legal duty on the platforms to check who is actually working.
